Zenith City’s staff is available to help you do what we do best: Discover and celebrate the rich history of Duluth, Western Lake Superior, and Minnesota’s Arrowhead through research, public presentations, and publishing high-quality history books.
Zenith City publisher Tony Dierckins has become a sought-after public speaker who offers a variety of topics celebrating historic Duluth. These presentations take a considerable amount of time to create (up to 40 hours), and each performance requires rehearsal, travel to and from the event, and of course the event itself—which are often held after regular business hours. Fees vary depending on the type of organization that hosts the event. Select from the topics at right or have us create a custom presentation* for your event.
(Annual dinners, fundraisers, staff retreats, client-enticing events)
Cost: $350 (from 30 minutes to one hour; see right for a list of topics; fee will be reduced by $50 if the speaker is allowed to sell books following the presentation.
Organizations with senior citizen clients
(Senior Centers, Assisted-Living Facilities, College Classes, etc.)
Cost: $150* (from 30 minutes to one hour; see right for a list of topics; fee will be reduced by $50 if the speaker is allowed to sell books following the presentation.
(Historical Societies, Preservation Groups, Genealogy Clubs, Libraries, etc.)
Cost: $100 (from 30 minutes to one hour; see right for a list of topics; speaker must be allowed to sell books following the presentation.)
Civic Organization Dinners, Luncheons or Breakfasts
(Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, etc.)
Cost: Free (from 20–30 minutes; see right for a list of topics; speaker must be allowed to sell books following the presentation.
If you would like us to discus a topic not currently offered on the list at right, we can create a custom presentation for your event. Costs include, research, image procurement, presentation design, and speaking at the event itself:
- 20–30 minutes: $500
- 35–60 minutes: $750
Zenith City’s researchers use resources from a variety of libraries, city and county government facilities, historical societies, and other history-related organizations and web-based resources such as GenealogyBank.com and Ancestry.com. Travel to these resources, photocopying documents, and fees for internet service subscriptions are costly, and finding and analyzing texts takes considerable time.
Basic fee: $75
This includes one hour of research, copies of pertinent documents, and a written report of up to 500 words about findings.
- Additional research: $25/hour for each additional hour.
- Additional writing: $.15/word, minimum of 500-words ($75)
- Document procurement fees: Fees charged to Zenith City (not including phototcopying) for documents requested by the client will be billed to the client.
- Image Procurement: Costs incurred and time spent by Zenith City for photographs or other images requested by the client will be billed to the client at a minimum of $50 per image, greater depending on third party fees.
History Book Publishing
Zenith City not only publishes its own history books, but since 1994 founder Tony Dierckins has been helping individuals and organizations bring over three dozen books to life under the business name X-presso Books. Titles include history books for the Ely-Winton Historical Society, the Esko Historical Society, the College of St. Scholastica, the Douglas County Historical Society, the historic Fitger’s Brewery, the Monastery of St. Scholastica, and the Duluth Preservation Alliance. From pamphlets to full-blown illustrated coffee table books, Zenith City can help you create your masterpiece. Each project is different, so we custom quote our fees after a free one-hour meeting with you.
