The St. Louis County Historical Society is providing two great excuses to visit the Depot this Week. The first, slated for this Wednesday September 19, is a free antiques appraisal ala “The Antiques Roadshow.” The Historical Society has arranged for Dan Sershon of Northland Estate Services and Denny Mager of Northern Specialty, both experts in antique appraisal, to be at your service from noon until 3 p.m. in the Great Hall.

And this week’s “Lunch with the History People” welcomes back Chad Lewis, author of the Minnesota Road Guide to Gangster Hot Spots and the Minnesota Road Guide to Haunted Locations. Lewis’s previous presentations on these two topics beguiled guests, who lined up to buy his books. Upon his last visit, Chad was wrapping up his research for his most recent collection of eerie Minnesota legends. His presentation is based on his most recent publication, the Minnesota Road Guide to Mysterious Creatures, and includes photos, sound clips, drawings and testimonies from witnesses concerning accounts of Bigfoot, the State Fair’s phantom pigs, aliens, witches and even sea serpents. Lewis speaks at noon on Thursday, September 20, in the Depot’s Ruth Maney Room.

Both events are free. The Depot, officially the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center, is at 506 West Michigan Street.
