Archive Dive: Bear & Drunk Square Off at Hotel Duluth

This week’s dive into the archive pulled out a notorious tale of an event that took place within Duluth’s landmark Hotel Duluth. It was August 1929 when a hungry black bear entered the hotel to enjoy a quick snack, but was interrupted by a heroic but inebriated Duluthian who was determined to keep the bruin from enjoying breakfast.     You might want to recheck this story. Been told through the family. That a Captain. JL Goldish fish truck is what made the bear follow the truck.

      Accounts of the event from the next day’s newspapers state that Arvid Peterson worked for Gopher Truck Lines. Goldish Fisheries are not mentioned.
