Good Night Everybody…and be Kind

By Denny Anderson

At nineteen Denny nervously broke the news about President Kennedy’s assassination to radio listeners throughout Minnesota’s Arrowhead region. He was the first journalist to break the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald’s sinking. And he anchored the WDIO-TV news from 1970 to 2011, covering every major regional story, including The Great Blizzard of ’91, the Glensheen murders and Marjorie Caldwell’s notorious exploits, and many more.

Over the years Denny has interviewed a number of politicians and celebrities, including Jesse Ventura, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Abbie Hoffman, Jeno Paulucci, Muhammad Ali, Cher, Jerry Lewis, Elizabeth Taylor, and Johnny Cash. Inside, Denny recalls these stories and many others against the backdrop of his personal life—growing up on the Iron Range and becoming an avid outdoorsman, dedicated family man, private pilot, and Catholic Deacon. Along the way he shares the insights that come from a life spent on the air and looks ahead to his future and the future of regional broadcast journalism.
