1871 View of Duluth
This week‘s featured design from Zenith City Press’s line of vintage reproduction art was originally published in Harper’s Weekly Supplemental in the summer of 1871. It is a woodblock carving of a sketch showing Minnesota Point stretching out below the hillside of Duluth in 1870, the year it first became a city. This 150-year-old print was likely hand-colored, as we have seen other original examples of this same design colored differently from our image.
Zenith City Press obtained the image when it was scanned from an original owned by the late Maryanne C. Norton, coauthor of our book Lost Duluth. We first used the image in Zenith: A Postcard Perspective of Historic Duluth (out of print). It is available as a print (framed or unframed on canvas, art paper, metal, or wood), greeting cards, throw pillows, puzzles, tote bags, coffee mugs, and even face masks.
