From 1927 to 1985 the Arrowhead Bridge helped people cross the St. Louis River between West Duluth and Superior’s Billings Park neighborhood. It was rendered obsolete after the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge was completed in 1985. It cost $200,000 more to demolish the bridge than it did to build it in the first place (But if you adjust for inflation using today’s dollars, the bridge cost $6.7 million to build and $1.5 million to destroy.) Read a much more complete history of the bridge here.
